Difference between homeopathic and phytotherapy

As many will know, homeopathy is opposed to phytotherapy. To date homeopathic medicines do not contain active ingredients typical of some plants as it happens with phytotherapeutic drugs, which refer to the most famous treatments, used for centuries by official medicine. The homeopathic cures in fact at the base have varied types of principles that come from the plant world, from the animal, mineral and chemical one. It is no coincidence that the antimony, a semi-metal, is the basic basis for homeopathic medicines, the oscillococcinum base for treating flu symptoms, coming from the liver. Instead, herbal medicines are real drugs with a medicinal function. It is also important to remember that homeopathy is not recognized, unlike the other, as a scientifically proven medicine.

Principles of homeopathic medicines

Homeopathy is based on some principles necessary to understand which types to choose. The first is that of dilution: all the substances of which we have spoken, impossible at times to be diluted with water, are dissolved with other substances such as sugars, for example lactose, and then subsequently in water. The dilution has degrees that make us understand the potency of the homeopathic drug chosen for the cure to follow. A second principle from which to start is the miasma, that is a predisposition of a person to a specific type of disease, independent of the environment and lifestyle. All these principles are fundamental to choose a homeopathic treatment suitable for us and often the advice of a homeopathic doctor, specialized in the field, is required. Pay attention to what you choose.

The spread in the world

Homeopathy has undergone a great development in the second half of the nineteenth century: already in 1832 the first homeopathic hospital was inaugurated in Sibiu, Romania, but it is in the following decades that this treatment spread throughout Europe, even arriving in the United States. At the beginning the results were really satisfactory, but it seems that it is only because homeopathy immediately abandoned practices still in vogue but somewhat macabre and harmful such as bloodletting. Parallel to the development of traditional medicine, this branch began to lose credibility and efficacy compared to classic medicines. In the first decade of our century, many nations began to cancel reimbursements for homeopathic medicines and canceled the drug compositions from the handbooks, as happened in England in 2007. Even homeopathic hospitals have fewer and fewer bookings for admissions and specialist visits.

Homeopathic medicines: Opinions on homeopathic medicines

According to the homeopaths, to dilute a substance more does not cause a decrease in the effect, but rather increases its effectiveness. In practice, however, the percentages of dilution operated in the homeopathic field are so high that many medicines thus produced appear to be composed almost entirely of sugar. The World Health Organization states that homeopathy is not a real cure, therefore it cannot bring real benefits to its patients. People treated with such therapies very often are influenced by the placebo effect and do not have tangible benefits from these treatments: this causes real risks in those who are suffering from serious and progressive diseases, because homeopathic medicines do not slow down the advance of the disease. The results, in fact, according to statistics, are not better than those obtained by the same placebo effect alone.
